Date Of Birth: January 1, 1933
Date Of Death: May 24, 2012
Our wife and mother, Rita Joan Baker, graduated the school of life May 24, 2012 at the age of 79 to pursue a higher purpose. She was more of a teacher than a student as she taught us that the will to live is stronger than any disease. She was given 3 to 5 years to live but stayed 11. She always did things her way! Her legacy lives on in her husband Arthur David Baker, Jr.; daughters Debbie Baker and Vicki (Tony) Miller; grandchildren Rachel (Scott) Weaver and Chris Day; great-grandchild Chandler Rapp. A memorial service will be held on June 3rd at 1:00 p.m. at Vicki’s house, 958 N. Harbison Ave., Indianapolis. You may visit her online guestbook at www.harrywmoore.com.

I want to take a moment and send my prayers to all of you. I’m glad your mom did it on her terms and went peacefully. She was so very loved and has blessed my world with a wonderful daughter who she taught to love. Take care of each other through this time and know i love you all.

Oh what sweet memories I have of Joan! Many many days of my youth spent at Baker’s Little Acre…so much to be thankful for. She was a beautiful spirit and raised two beautiful daughters who grew up to be beautiful women. Dave, you were a true and faithful husband…God’s peace and mercy be with all of you for all your days. Rest in peace, dear Joan.

I had the pleasure of living across the street from Joan and Dave for 23 years. You both are more than friends- you a family. Joan was the strongest fighter I have every known. And Dave You are the best husband I have had the honor of knowing.

My Condolence to everyone who is a part of Joan’s family. I shared a wonderful and amazing friendship with Joan, and as I have read in so many quotes, the distance truly didn’t matter. I live in India. She was definitely a fighter, it is amazing how she fought with her condition for so long. To me what was even more amazing about her is her ability to connect with people so quickly and being able to make them feel better about things and themselves and smile. Every time I feel a little down, I always would come online and see if I could catch Joan online and spend some time with her as I knew that she would definitely make me feel better. I would like to think that I was able to make her feel nice whenever we got in touch. I have been missing her for quite a while, will miss her even more now but will always have good memories of her with me and I know that even the memories of Joan will make me smile just the same way she did.
Love – Kevin (Rajanikanth)

I was very sorry I had to miss the memorial service today for my friend Joan. We were friends at Broad Ripple High School and also belonged to some clubs together. I was so glad to see her last year at our 60th high school reunion — also glad to see Dave. She told me at that time of her health problems. My sympathy to Dave and her children. Her brother Don was not mentioned and I wondered if he is still around Indianapolis.
